Retirement, like photography, opens up possibilities and a window into many worlds. Yet there are still plenty of negative misconceptions about retirement and ageing. Leveraging on the power of photography to tell stories, Life Begins At 60 Photography Contest aims to raise awareness about retirement living and reduce the stigma of ageing. All Malaysian residents are invited to submit their photos based on the Life Begins At 60 theme and the best photos will win prizes. Additionally, shortlisted entries will be exhibited at GreenAcres Retirement Village, in tandem with the announcement of the winners.


"LIFE BEGINS AT 60" is the theme of this contest; for the public to express through photographs/images the positivity and possibilities of life at 60 years old and beyond.


The contest period shall be from 12:00 AM on 1 July 2020 to 11:59 PM on 31 August 2020 or such other time that GreenAcres (hereinafter referred to as 'the Organiser') shall decide from time to time. Entries received outside of the contest period will be disqualified from the contest. The Organiser reserves the right to vary, postpone or re-schedule the contest period or any dates thereof at its sole discretion.


The contest is open to all Malaysian citizens and residents regardless of age.


  1. Best Photograph: The contestant is to receive a RM3,000 cash prize and a 3D2N stay at GreenAcres Retirement Village for 2 pax over 55 years of age. The stay at GreenAcres Retirement Village is transferable.
  2. 2nd Best Photograph: The contestant is to receive a RM1,500 cash prize.
  3. 3rd Best Photograph: The contestant is to receive a RM1,000 cash prize.
  4. Two (2) Crowd Favourite Photographs: The contestants are each to receive a 3D2N stay at GreenAcres Retirement Village for 2 pax over 55 years of age. The stay at GreenAcres Retirement Village is transferable.
  5. A contestant can only win one (1) prize. The Organiser reserves the right to substitute the prizes (with items of equivalent value) without any notice to the contestants.

Submission Guidelines

  1. Contestants must take a photograph (image-capture of objects via light sensitivity) relevant to the theme and submit the image via email to the Organiser.
  2. Contestants are required to submit to their image(s) as an attachment along with his/her Full Name (as per new I/C or Passport), new I/C/Passport No, address of residence, and telephone/mobile number following the format below:

  3. A contestant may submit multiple images. However, only ONE (1) prize will be given to each winner. Any additional prizes (if declared) will be automatically void.
  4. Contestants are to follow the submission guidelines on the contest website and submit their image(s) to the designated email address, The winning entries shall be based on the creative interpretation of the theme/subject and technical excellence as judged by the Organiser.
  5. Contestants are strongly advised to post under 1 (one) name and NOT to create more than 1 (one) proxy or "second name" post or to use image(s) of others. Repeated posting of the same image is strongly not advised. Failure to adhere to this rule will automatically disqualify an image or images from being judged.


Submission Format

  1. Images captured by cameras must be in digital format, in colour or monochrome (black and white). Minimum file size of each submitted image must be 3MB.
  2. Images must not have been submitted before in any contest or event or have won any prizes. Entry has to be in the form of a single image. NO WATERMARK or any form of photographer's identification or copyright mark on the image is advised.
  3. Any form of digital imaging (including sepia, monochrome) or image manipulations (including HDR and IR) is allowed. All winners and shortlisted participants are required to submit to the Organiser upon notice thereto, the digital file of high res images that was posted, in the ORIGINAL FULL RESOLUTION with full EXIF data in a CD or through email for verification purposes, failing which the judged entry (image) will be automatically disqualified. The Organiser may also at its discretion, request submission of a RAW file image.
  4. All entries/ images must be the original creation of the contestant and the contestant must own the copyright of the image(s). By virtue of submitting an entry, the contestant certifies the image as his/her own. The copyright of the image(s) entered remains with the photographer. Where applicable, the contestant must hold a model release for model(s) included in the image(s). Should the contestant fail to fulfil this clause (iv), they shall indemnify the Organiser for all damages incurred, if any.
  5. Contestants shall not submit any pornographic, obscene, criminal or adult themes, links, cultural or race discrimination or political image(s) that in the Organiser's sole opinion is/are offensive.
  6. Image(s) submitted must be according to the theme.

  7. Judging & Results

  8. After the closing date, the Organiser will review entries and shortlist winners. The results of this contest will be decided by a panel of judges. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entertained.
  9. Employees and relatives of the Organiser and the judges for the year 2019/2020 are not allowed to participate.

  10. Copyright, Reproduction & Indemnity:

By submitting an image for this contest, the contestant permits the Organiser to reproduce at will submitted images free of charge for publicity and promotional purposes, and for publication and/or display in media related to the contest/exhibition. This may include low resolution posting on the Internet or online, from the start of the contest and up to a duration of 12 months from the day of Prize Presentation.
  12. By participating in this contest, contestants agree to be bound by these rules and regulations as well as the decisions made by the Organiser and the panel of judges. In addition, he/she have read and understood the rules and regulations stated above and will adhere to these rules and regulations. Your participation in the LIFE BEGINS AT 60 PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST is at your own risk and the Organiser neither assumes nor accepts any liability or responsibility for any direct, indirect, incidental or other loss or damage whatsoever arising out of your participation in this contest. The Organiser assumes no responsibility, and shall not be liable for any damage to your computer equipment or other property, or for any loss or corruption of data arising from your access to the contest website and submission channel howsoever caused, whether by reason of software and/or hardware issues, including but not limited to viruses, Trojan horses, worms, software bombs or similar items or processes.

  14. Notification of winners

  15. The names of winners of the contest will be informed by the Organiser by way of:
    • a posting of the shortlist on the contest website and Facebook
    • email invitation to the shortlisted participants to attend the exhibition
    • announcement of winners at the exhibition
  16. The Organiser is not obliged to provide any explanation or reasons for any decisions made by the Organisers (whether suspension, ban or selection of winners). All decisions of the Organiser are FINAL and BINDING on the participants.
